Exam board: AQA

Qualification: GCSE in Art and Design

“Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.”  Edgar Degas

Art and Design enables us to understand the visual world in which we live and embodies some of the highest forms of human creativity.

Our aim is to inspire and develop student’s confidence in their creativity in order to develop cultural, emotional, intellectual, social and spiritual understanding so they are equipped with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design.

KS3 students will explore the formal elements of art through drawing skills and colour theory and learn to apply these skills to a theme by looking at the work of artists.

KS4 students study the AQA Art and Design GCSE specification. The work of artists and their techniques are studied in more depth. There is something for everyone and every ability regardless of whether it has been a previously studied option.
